Scouts

Aim

The Scout Section is for young people, aged between 10½ and no older than 15 years.  Scouts take part in a balanced programme that helps them to find out about the world in which they live.  They are encouraged to discover their own abilities and the importance of keeping fit.  This helps develop their creative talents and a degree of independence. Scouts also provide opportunities to explore their own values and personal attitudes and the manner in which they respect other people.

Time & Place

Thursdays 7:30 - 9:15pm for boys or girls aged 10½ and no older than 15 years.

What to expect

Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme.

"Participation" is the key approach and while there are standards to be met to achieve badges and awards the concept is that each individual or team member ‘does their best’ whatever that best may be.  For the Scout who wants to be recognised for his or her achievements there are a number of Challenges Awards and Activity Badges and leaders endeavour to facilitate this within the programme.

Being outdoors is an important part of the programme and time is given over to taking part in both the traditional Scouting skills, such as camping, survival and cooking as well as the wide range of adventurous activities.  This may be anything from hiking or climbing to kayaking.

Scouting is about being with friends, as part of a team, participating fully in the adventure and opportunities of life.
