Time & Place
Thursdays 8:30 - 10:00pm
Scout Loft
For young people aged 14-18
What to expect
The Explorer Scout section at Knock is open to anyone, both male and female from age 14 to age 18. There is no need for any previous experience or background in Scouting or Guiding.
Meetings are held every Thursday evening. Meetings commence at 8:30 pm, frequently with joint activities with the Scouts. From 9:15 pm, the Explorer section meets on its own. We try to have one activity away from the hall once a month, whether a night game, a hike or a camp.
The emphasis in the Explorer Scout programme is on fun, challenge, service and adventure. Explorer Scouts have a lot of input into choosing and planning the activities in their programme, developing planning and leadership skills. Explorer Scouts are encouraged to work towards their Chief Scout’s Awards and Queen’s Scout Award: in completing these, Explorer Scouts will complete their Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards.
Scout Network is the Scouting section for young people aged 18-25.
Knock has an active Scout Network “crew”. Activities occur on an ad hoc basis: depending on when people are free. Scout Network is open to anyone aged 18-25, both male and female. No previous Scouting or Guiding experience is necessary.
Activities centre around challenge, adventure, service, and, most importantly, fun. We take part in activities with the other sections in the Group at Knock, and with other Scout Network “crews” in Belfast or further afield in the province. Scout Network provides an opportunity to work towards the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards, as part of the Chief Scout’s Awards and Queen’s Scout Award.
Scout Network at Knock is organised by Bill Gowdy. Contact him (028 90656868) if interested.
