At Knock Presbyterian Church, we believe everyone has something to offer and that everyone can play a significant part in shaping young peoples lives. Because God has entrusted us with over 300 young people, we are constantly looking for men and women of God who might assist us in creating an atmosphere of love for them to grow. Even if you feel like a “2” out of 10 right now, I’m thankful you’re willing to explore opportunities to serve God within our Youth Ministry.
I believe healthy youth ministry is built on healthy relationships between adult leaders and children/young people. Relationships are key to young people feeling loved and understanding God’s love in practical ways. When these relationships are healthy real spiritual growth takes place in a young persons life.
The quality of our staff is very important. We are looking for men and women who have a deep commitment to Christ and a desire to care for young people. Please take time to read the following material and fill out the application with prayer and consideration. Because we place great value on this ministry, we also place great value on the health of our staff.
Once we have received your application, we will contact you to schedule an interview with one of the staff. We promise that all information you share will be kept strictly confidential. In the meantime, please feel free to observe our youth ministry programmes that interests you or sample a few to give you more a wider picture, please contact the main leader to make them aware of your visitation
As you know, Knock is a great church and our youth ministry is a great place to allow you time to make eternal investments in young people lives! I’m looking forward to meeting you and spending some time talking about your hopes and desires for ministry. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Paul on 07973 674777 or Nicky on 07835948998.
Today’s young people do not connect to programs they connect with people. The most effective way to impact young people is through significant relationships with caring adults in their lives. One of the common roadblocks for adults getting started in youth ministry is they have misconceptions about what it takes to be a youth leader.
Common misconceptions are…
Here’s the truth about what young people need…
Young people need adults who will. . .
Option A: Hands on leadership
The hands on Team are the people who work directly with young people and care for them. The more leaders we have the more individual attention we can provide the young people. We need leaders, teachers, relational/befrienders, evangelists, speakers, small-group leaders, organisers etc… We need leaders in Lighthouse (Sunday School), Madhouse (Junior Bible Class), Souled Out, Junior Youth Club, BE@N, Greenhouse, Uniformed Organisations in fact every organisation has shortages. If we do not get more leaders we may have consider closing some of organisations. We need leaders to fill our current gaps in the above organisations and we also want to create new programmes and new ministries to maximise our work with young people. We recognise that not everyone can be involved every week, so we will also have opportunities for people to work on a rota system.
Option B: Support team
This team consists of people who care about an individual leader or young person or an organisation, they have no specific responsibility, their main role is to support and encourage the youth ministry. Who will champion the cause for young people and assist us in creating a positive environment for young people and leaders.
Option C: Resource team
This team provides an opportunity for people to get involved in youth ministry through the sharing of their possessions or specialised abilities. People can join this team by making an item of personal property or a skill available for use from time to time. Personal property items would include video cameras, camping equipment, trailers, sports equipment etc… Potential skills that would be seen as resource would be car drivers, drama coaches, computer, arts and crafts, card making, cooking, carpentry photography, video editing, publicity and marketing etc… We would also require a team that would co-ordinate the resources so that we could free up our hands on youth leaders from chasing up tents etc, for events like Summer Madness. This would provide people an opportunity who would not want to be hands on or make a regular commitment, however want to help behind the scenes.
Option D: Communication team
In a Church as large as Knock and with so many things going on, it is hard to keep people consistently informed. We have a growing youth ministry that needs to communicate with a variety of people and groups. The communication team would be responsible for publicity, website, news letters, articles in Church magazine, Databases etc… We need creative adults and young people to head up and co-ordinate the communication with young people, leaders, parents, the congregation etc… This will include people with talents in writing, journalism, website design, publicity, marketing, creating computer databases and so on.
Option E: Prayer team
We believe that our youth ministry will not grow unless we develop a strong foundation of prayer. The prayer team will be made up of men and women who will commit to pray on a regular basis through regular prayer lists, prayer for individual young people and leaders or praying for organisations.
