KPC Youth Exchange to Barcelona

Think of Barcelona - and you may see Gaudi's cathedral and the spires that stand high above the city skyline or you may even think of the football team playing at a packed Nou Camp!

One image that you might not associate with Barcelona is of more than 30 young people standing half awake at Belfast International Airport about to check in for a flight.

This summer, a youth trip was arranged to the Barcelona region. The 14 day trip was split into two parts; the first week was spent at the Youth For Christ camp in the Berea region, near Montserrat. And the second was spent relaxing in Salou and the city of Barcelona itself.

The week at camp was a great experience for young people and leaders alike. All the sessions were translated into both English and Spanish - allowing all those present to

hear some great messages from Paul Brown and Mark Dodrill, the camp director. Bilingual praise sessions were a new concept for everyone - especially me - but by the end

of the week, the Knock crowd were more than happy to belt out the words of ‘Revolucion'.

Apart from these sessions, we spent time at the pool, eating and taking part in daily activities that included archery, baseball, football (including a 5-2 defeat for the Knock XI) -and even a game of ‘water melon ball' (a game that would be unthinkable in Britain with health and safety laws!).

Late night activities included a game called ‘Night Striker' and an Irish night. We also had two testimony nights where young people from both countries shared their stories. These nights were truly amazing and very touching.  The week ended with goodbyes, email addresses being swapped and a few tears being shed.

The second week saw the Knock crowd on their own - sampling the Spanish holiday lifestyle. Two days of fun in Port Aventura were followed by a day at the beach and a trip to a water park.

After Salou and the thrills of the roller coasters, we hit the city of Barcelona to finish off the trip.

One day was spent sampling the shopping delights of the city - where the guys splashed more cash than the girls - and the second day was spent on a bus tour of what is one of the nicest cities in Europe.

All in all, the trip was a great success, the camp was a life-changing experience and it was so great to see people from another country worship our great God.
