You only have to pick up a magazine or newspaper or flick on the television to see the very real challenges and temptations facing young Christian girls today.
So to help guide our older girls through some of the potential pitfalls and to encourage them to think about what it means to be a woman of God “Soul Sistas” was formed.
Under the leadership of Katie Mounstephens, the Bible-based discipleship group was set up earlier this year. Meeting weekly over a two month period in Katie’s home, the group, made-up of a small number of 5th and 6th form girls, discussed and prayed over the issues facing most teenagers.
One girl who took part was Hunter House sixth former Judith Glasgow.
“The great thing about Soul Sistas was that because it was a small intimate group we were able to get to know each other really well and to talk and pray openly about problems and issues we were facing.
?“We talked about our relationship with God and what it meant to us, our relationships with other girls and, not surprisingly, relationships with boys! We talked about how to date boys and in doing so how to ensure we honour God and are obedient to Him,” said 18-year-old Judith.
“The material, produced by Katie, was very relevant and helped us look at how as young Christian women we address the challenges ahead of us and how, through it all, we develop our relationship with God in a way that is real and meaningful.
“It also provided us with a great opportunity to make new friends and to deeper our relationships with existing friends as well as taking our relationship with God to a new level. I was so impressed by it that I have brought in into the senior SU at school, where it has been a bit hit. I would certainly recommend it to my younger sister Hannah and her friend,” added Judith.
At the end of the two months the girls hit Glasgow to do what girls do best – talk, shop and drink coffee!
Paul Brown is running another set of Soul Sistas session and Passage, which is a course for young men and there fathers both are running on Tuesday for the next numbers of months.
